Le case colorate di Castelsardo sul pendio sotto il castello dei Doria

Castelsardo in a day: a trip from Costa Paradiso

Perched on a headland in Anglona, Castelsardo overlooks the Gulf of Asinara with its colourful houses and the outline of Doria Castle. On Sardinia’s northwestern coast, the village brings together stone, narrow lanes and glimpses of the sea: a destination for a day trip from Costa Paradiso, combining history, crafts and panoramic views.

Through the village lanes

In Castelsardo, the walk follows the contours of the hill, among steps, intimate passageways and warmly coloured façades. The streets climb towards the castle and suddenly open onto the light of the sea. Explore without rushing, leaving time for details and a pause in the shade. Comfortable shoes help with the changes in level; on summer days, choose the cooler hours.

The castle, the cathedral and the Gulf of Asinara

Doria Castle crowns the village and shapes its silhouette from afar. The bell tower of the Cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate rises above the rooftops, topped by a dome covered in glazed tiles. Along the lanes, your gaze moves from stone buildings to views over the Gulf of Asinara: small shifts in perspective make the walk part of the visit, alongside the monuments themselves.

The Mediterranean Weaving Museum

Inside the castle, the Museo dell’Intreccio Mediterraneo preserves another side of the area: plant fibres worked by hand. Baskets and fishing tools show how craftsmanship has shaped everyday life on land and at sea. It is a place to pause over materials and traditions; check opening times and visiting arrangements before you arrive.
