A day in Vignola Mare: Spiaggia della Torre
In Vignola Mare, in northern Gallura, pale sand meets water with turquoise and green reflections. Junipers and Mediterranean scrub line Spiaggia della Torre, also known as La Turra, while the granite tower watches over the headland. From the sea, the path climbs towards the tower and provides access for visitors: from above, the view opens over the coast and inland, between horizons of water and outlines of land.

The path and the Spanish tower
The path climbing from the beach leads to a place where scenery meets history. Vignola’s tower was built in the early seventeenth century, during Spanish rule in Sardinia, to watch the coast, protect the nearby tuna fishery and spot raids from the sea. It formed part of a network of lookouts and fortifications linked to the towers of Isola Rossa and Santa Reparata.
Today, its granite structure still overlooks the headland. Walking up to it lets you see the beach from above and understand why this spot was chosen as a lookout.
Between the beach and the headland
Spend the day swimming, taking a break in the village and walking towards the tower. As the heat eases, the path offers another perspective on the coast. Suitable shoes, water and sun protection are useful for this short encounter between sea and history.
Facilities
Spiaggia della Torre retains an open, wild character, with pale sand, junipers and clear water. Vignola Mare village is nearby, with bars, restaurants and beach clubs along the coast: convenient for a break or lunch close to this natural setting. The stretch by the tower remains a free-access beach, with facilities within reach; business opening times follow the season.
Getting there from Costa Paradiso
Around 20 km by car · around 25 minutes to Vignola Mare.
From Costa Paradiso, follow the SP90 towards Vignola Mare. From the village, continue on foot towards Spiaggia della Torre and the headland, following local access signs. The driving time does not include the walk.
Distances and journey times are approximate and may vary depending on your accommodation, route and traffic.
